how we first met #8: Giovanni Scavezzon and his Tutto plus
20 years old, Giovanni Scavezzon is the son of one of the three founders of Italian alternative cycling mecca, Fratelli Scavezzon.
Born and raised in an unusually heterogeneous, hybrid and sophisticated bike culture, Giovanni is also the proud owner – we were delighted to discover – of a very special Cinelli Tutto Plus, our entirely unique hybrid “go-anywhere” track frame.

I grew up with Cinelli. I always loved the brand and whenever I would accompany my dad to trade shows as a kid I always wanted to go see the Cinelli stall, I was fascinated by the brand.
I bought the Tutto Plus when I was already really into riding track bikes. I already owned a Cinelli x Mash Parallax (now unfortunately stolen) and an early-2000s Cannondale track. The more I rode and experimented with these two bikes on more and more ambitious courses the more I realized that these bikes were actually pretty uncomfortable. They were way too stiff for what I was trying to do. But I was 18, I didn’t want to buy a serious gravel bike with gears… So I started looking around for an alternative: a bike that could be ridden as a fixed gear, was comfortable and looked really cool… During my research I realized that the Cinelli Tutto Plus has a total monopoly on this kind of alternative track bike. So I bought a frame in the original blue colour and I started building it up with bits and pieces I liked, like for example an old Dura Ace octalink crankset and a pink “Pretty and Strong” limited edition Chris King headset from 2008. Even just that headset made the bike for me… At first I had an old pair of 700cc track wheels I found in the store on it but then I converted a pair of old Mavic ISO mtb wheels to fixed gear and put Schwalbe 38s on it… I don’t know how secure the system was but it was a lot of fun to ride… Then, inspired by the King Zydecos we were building up in the store with 27.5s I built my Tutto with a set of those too which for short rides was amazing… And of course I’ve got a front rack on it… Which I love aesthetically and for its functionality (I always keep my lock on it). I love the bike because you can set it up in so many different ways, you can do everything with it (like the name says)..
I have about 5000km on the Tutto now. I’ve “grown up” a bit and have a MTB and a gravel bike too now but I still ride my Tutto all the time because I like it so much… I’m kind of proud of it actually… and I use it mostly for long commutes or day trips in the region that I do, of 40km or so, to go to Venice or Padova.
